Dorset Women Going Digital

Stephanie Pettitt

9:20am 16th October 2014

Dorset women entrepreneurs are going digital.

85 women attended a conference aimed at inspiring them to make better use of social media and the virtues of the cloud.

Further sessions are planned as part of the superfast Dorset roll out which will inform business women on how to run their companies while on the go.

Stephanie Pettitt, MD of Equation Cloud Accountancy, has agreed to be a 'digital heroine' and act as mentor throughout the programme. She said:

"I was thrilled to be involved with a day which helped women empower themselves with the business opportunities and liberation that can be obtained by using the cloud. Thank you so much for inviting me."

Dorset County Council chief executive Debbie Ward said:

"Superfast Dorset's new fibre network has the potential to help all businesses to grow. We want to support businesses to make the best use of the technology it brings. This project is tailored to inspire female entrepreneurs to use digital solutions to transform their businesses."

The Government Equalities Office is funding the project while WSX Enterprise is delivering it with Superfast Dorset. WSX programme manager Liz Wright said:

"Women often have to juggle running their business with caring responsibilities; we are trying to cram a lot into every day. Technology can help us all to work smarter not harder, so freeing up precious time to start and grow our businesses."

Research shows if women started businesses at the same rate as men, there would be a million more women entrepreneurs. Minister for Women and Equalities Nicky Morgan said:

"This fund will give women the practical help needed to get their businesses online and take advantage of superfast broadband."
