Villagers in Crossways are to finally get their own church after a 20 year campaign.

The village was built on the site of an old World War airfield so has never had an official place of worship.

Now work on a new church is due to start at Frome Valley School in the next few weeks.

What started as a monthly service has now become so popular that the local clergy have been campaigning for a new place of worship to be built.

The village now has a population of 2,500 people.

Local vicar Jacquie Birdseye told Wessex FM; "We're going to be a community hub really. So anybody can come in and use the facilities and maybe come in and have a coffee or use it as a meeting place. We hope to do a lot of work with families and young children."
