"Broadchurch" Landmark Placed On The At Risk Register

St John's Church

Over 300 Historic sites across Dorset are at risk according to figures released today by English Heritage.

Even after its appearance in ITV's Broadchurch, the Church of St John in West Bay is highlighted as being under threat.

The concrete vestry roof and church's main roof both need urgent repairs to stop water leaking into the building.

Team vicar from the Church Pete Stone told Wessex FM he wasn't too disheartened with the church getting on the list.

He said; "I wouldn't say bleak at all I would actually say it's looking positive because people are up for making it a lovely building. We just need to crack a few grants to fix the roof."

In total there are 312 sites on the Heritage at Risk Register in Dorset.

Scheduled monuments or archaeological sites make up the greatest proportion, with 279 highlighted as being at risk.
