Dorchester Site Manager Up For National Award For Poundbury

Published at 9:11am 31st October 2014.

A Dorchester site manager has staked a claim to become one of the best house builders in the UK.

Steve Walker of C G Fry & Son Ltd was chosen from 15,000 others as a South West Champion at the NHBC's - Pride in the Job Awards.

Steve was awarded for his work at Poundbury - and could be named a national champion at a ceremony in January.

NHBC is the UK's leading new-home warranty provider. Jim Lyons, NHBC Regional Director, congratulated Steve on his win:

"The NHBC Pride in the Job Awards are the most sought after accolades in the industry, recognising site managers that build high quality homes. Site managers play a critical role in delivering any project, being responsible for overseeing everything that happens on site from start to finish.

"Steve is building some of the very best houses in the UK, demonstrating consistently high standards, and is in the top half a percent of his profession. Anyone buying a home built by one of our winners' can do so with confidence in its workmanship and quality."

Prospective home-buyers should look out for special flags and notice boards on site, which mark out sites built by winning managers.

Steve talked about his win:

"I like understanding the traditional detail required for such a prestigious development as the one I'm on. This award is recognition for all the team."

Steve had worked in construction for 37 years.
