Healthy Eating On The Menu In Dorset
7:34am 6th November 2014
Promoting healthy school meals is on the menu for Dorset students this week.
It’s National School Meals Week, with 2.8 million primary school children now getting free lunches.
Caroline Morgan runs Bridport based award winning meals provider “Local Food Links”. She told Wessex FM what makes the perfect lunch for kids;
"Hot and filling and is just great to have in the middle of the school day when you've been running around with your friends at break time. You come into lunch, you're really starving, and you find a delicious roast dinner waiting for you."
To help raise awareness and enhance children's relationships with food, as part of National School Meals Week , school cooks will be taking their skills out of the school kitchen to showcase to parents and pupils the variety and quality of food now being served.
With one in five children leaving primary school overweight and obese, the Government says ensuring a healthy, nutritionally balanced school lunch has never been so important.
