Crossways Library Celebrates 25th Birthday

9:23am 8th November 2014

In 2012 it was at risk of closing but today (8th November) Crossways Library is celebrating its 25th birthday.

Volunteers now keep the facility running after funding was withdrawn by the county council.

Deputy Lieutenant, Major- General Mark Bond who opened the library back in 1989 is marking the special occasion by attending the anniversary party.

Liz Callister chairman of the Friends of Crossways Library (FOCL) said "The library has come a long way in the last 25 years, from just a place to borrow books to the vibrant hub of the community it is today.

"After a huge campaign, we saved the library in 2012 and since then we have worked closely with Dorset County Council."

"Now with have our volunteers playing vital supporting roles, the library has gone from strength to strength".
