Pay And Display On The Esplanade

9:09am 12th November 2014

Work's started to introduce more pay and display parking near the pier bandstand along the Esplanade in Weymouth.

Its part of plans to help reduce the congested parking, improve safety for pedestrians and drivers and boosting the seafront economy.

The project will bring in a single row of parking spaces, a traffic island, clearer signage, marking and layout along with a safety break between cars and the bus lane.

Weymouth & Portland Borough Council Transport and Infrastructure brief holder Christine James said: "We are doing these works to improve the looks of this area of the seafront and bring the parking arrangements in line with the rest of the Esplanade, which was introduced back in 2003.

"The work will improve safety and access massively for both drivers and pedestrians while promoting a greater turnover of people using the spaces."

Work is taking place from Monday to Friday between 7:45am to 4:30pm and it should be finished by the 28th of November.
