Three Hour Sing-A-Thon On Portland By The Alzheimer's Society

The Alzheimer's Society's Singing for the Brain has been hitting all the right notes today during their three hour Sing-a-thon on Portland.

They've been belting out the hits in Easton as part of their work helping people with dementia to express themselves and sing with others in a similar situation.

Melanie Gale, Alzheimer's Society Peer Group Support Facilitator, said: "It is a social activity for people with dementia and their carers enabling them to express themselves and sing with others in a similar situation.

"Even when many memories are hard to retrieve, music can sometimes still be recalled - if only for a short while. The sessions help people with dementia communicate, improving their mood and leaving them feeling good about themselves."

There are 1,081 people with dementia in Weymouth and Portland.
