Mencap Opens New Shop In Dorchester
8:39am 15th November 2014
A charity shop that plans to not only sell in store, but online too, has been officially opened in Dorchester!
The town's first Mencap shop, on High East Street, has items the public can buy, but will also be putting items on ebay.
Mencap work in partnership with local people who have learning disabilities, and their new store will be run by service users.
The store was officially declared open by Dorchester's Mayor Peter Mann, who cut the ribbon during a ceremony yesterday (14th November 2014).
Tim Malins, the Chairman of Mid Dorset Mencap, attended the opening ceremony and told us why he believes the shop is so important locally, "We have service users that are working in the shop and will get involved with both selling stuff in the shop and on ebay, which is very important for them. It's not only a charity shop it's a way of intergrating service users into society."
