'Watch Our Step' Campaign About To Start

Elderly People

12:00am 23rd November 2014

We're being asked to watch our step this winter as a campaign is starting up across Dorset to help improve safety at home.

Dorset Partnership for Older People's Programme is launching a series of events to raise awareness about the potential dangers in our houses.

Cllr Jill Haynes, Cabinet member for adult social care at Dorset County Council, said: "Falls are all too common among older individuals living at home, and are often life-changing events that lead to severe injury and loss of independence.

"The chances of falling and being seriously injured in a fall increase with age. Research shows that one in three adults aged 65 and over experience at least one fall each year."

There is also a chance to trade in old, slippery slippers for a free new pair for those over 55.

Events are taking place on the 26th of November in Bridport Town Hall and on Portland's Community 2000 Hall on the 3rd of February.
