10:10am 29th November 2014

Campaigners are taking to Dorchester's streets later to 'Reclaim The Night' to raise awareness about violence against women.

Women's Action Network Dorset is inviting anyone to come at join them at their annual event this evening.

Its taking place from 7-11pm at the Town Hall.

Money raised will go to West Dorset Women's Refuge to pay for a trip to a pantomime and presents for the kids.

Tickets are available on the door and the evening will also include a drumming workshop, a buffet supper and a charity auction before the main event, which is short march through the town.

WAND Chair Susan Bickle said: "The march through the streets is a way of raising awareness of the vulnerability faced by many women through domestic violence and abuse, rape honour based violence, and practises such as female circumcision."

This year we are welcoming anyone who wishes to support an end to violence against women so for the first time this will not be a female only event and so is open to everyone."

There were 693 convictions by Dorset Police in relation to domestic abuse for 2013/14.
