More than 60 firefighters were involved in tackling a fire in the roof of a thatched cottage in Dorset yesterday.
A vigilant neighbour of the property in Fontmell Magna spotted smoke and dialled 999.
Crews from Shaftesbury, Sturminster Newton and Blandford fire stations were called out.
On arriving in the village, the responding crews reported that the roof was alight and requested 3 further fire appliances which came from Gillingham and Sherborne, with 2 further Wiltshire appliances from Mere and Warminster.
A water carrier was also sent from Poole fire station.
Firefighters set to work putting out the blaze using main lines, hose reels and a compressed air foam line and worked to create a fire break in the thatch.
Two further fire engines were then requested from Sherborne and Wimborne stations.
The Red Cross were also called in to provide help and advice to people at the scene.
