Shoppers Urged To Support Small Businesses Today

South Street Dorchester Town Centre

10:06am 6th December 2014

Get into the community, get into local shops and get buying - that's the message we're being told today as part of Small Business Saturday.

Free park and ride is being offered to shoppers in Weymouth and there's also free parking in the town's council run car parks.

The event supported by the Federation of Small Businesses is aimed at getting more people to realise the advantages of spending their money in the local economy.

Local business expert Claire Robertson says there are lots of advantages to shopping in town rather than over the internet.

She told Wessex FM: "You want to go into shops, so you can have a touch and feel items you're interested in buying and also they give you excellent customer service.

"Even buying over the internet you can't be guaranteed the product is right so get out there and support small businesses and so much of that money goes back into the local economy as well."
