A hundred Dorset residents have formally established a group to fight for a Weymouth beach that has been closed off to the public.

The Friends of Castle Cove Beach say they are now recruiting members and are hoping to double their figures by next February.

Steve Elsworth, the elected Chair of the Friends spoke to Wessex FM, "We couldn't recruit members up to now, because we weren't formally established, but we started signing people up at Wyke Christmas Fayre. We now have 1000 fully-paid up members. Our email list has gone up from 80 to 140."

Access to the beach has been closed since a small landslip in April 2013.
