TRX suspension training is a functional way of exercising and is taking the fitness world by storm, with top class trainers and professional athletes raving about its effectiveness and adaptability.

The TRX is made of two heavy duty straps with hand grips that can be connected to almost anything and allow the trainee to practice over 300 different exercises using their own body weight and a variety of angles and movements. It also allows the user to be in control of how much of a challenge they get as they can make adjustments to add or reduce resistance to the exercises.

Olympic swimmer, Christine Magnuson, and footballers Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez are some of the athletes known to use the simple but challenging piece of equipment to train for their sports.

The TRX-A-Thon offers the opportunity for anyone wanting to try TRX and raise money for charity at the same time. The sessions run from 9am to 2pm and 4pm to 9pm and anyone attending the event will be entered into a free prize draw to win six months memberships and other prizes.

In a further bid to help raise money for the charity, the fitness club is offering free gym use from Friday 2nd January 2015 to Sunday 4th January 2015, asking for donations to the charity in place of session fees. Any gym users who come in during this time will also be entered into the free prize draw.

Mike Young, owner of the Portland gym say's: "We feel it's important to support Diabetes UK as the money raised funds vital research for a future without diabetes, while helping children and adults to manage their diabetes today. 85-95% of diabetics in the UK have type 2 diabetes and this is treated with a healthy diet and increased physical activity which is something the gym promotes".
