9:02am 2nd January 2015
The Wessex Military Band is inviting current and former musicians to join them for open rehearsals on 11th and 25th January.
This popular band formed in 1981 and currently has just over 40 members; aged 15 to 85 from all over the South and South West of England are looking for new members to join their ranks.
Playing a range of different musical styles from marches to musicals, classical and contemporary they are looking for players of woodwind, brass and percussion for the band and corps of drums.
Phil Bond, Bandmaster and former musician with the Devon and Dorsets Regiment said "many people played an instrument in school, youth orchestras or local brass bands but stopped performing to focus on work and family, but may now be looking for an opportunity to play again as part of a New Year's resolution that you will want to keep.
We are a friendly group of people who enjoy producing music and performing at local, national and international events. Although members ideally would be of grade 5 standard, or above we welcome all abilities including novices as tuition and the loan of instruments can be arranged.
The rehearsals will take place on Sunday 11th and 25th January from 10:00 to 2:30pm then fortnightly on Sundays at the Boys Brigade Hall, Sawmill's Lane, Dorchester DT1 2RZ,
