Greenhill Chalets in Weymouth won't be run by a community group after the Borough Council rejected its bid.
Weymouth and Portland Borough Council put the chalets up for sale last year but only Greenhill Community Asset Management came forward as a contender.
The council say they will now take back control of the chalets and Councillor Colin Huckle says it means a change in direction.
He told Wessex FM: "We've got to take a more commercial approach to letting the chalets. We have a waiting list of local people who seem to have to wait forever to get one so we'll open up the market to make it more easier for them."
Concerns were raised at the management meeting on 6th January over the community group's ability to cover the cost of repairing the chalets and how much emphasis they were placing on a volunteer workforce.
As a result, the council is looking to sell off the play area attached to Greenhill Chalets to generate funds to restore the site as well as other options to make the facilities more profitable in the future.
