Dr Who Style Police Tardis Could Land In Weymouth

Published at 7:37am 7th January 2015.

A Police Tardis could soon be landing in Weymouth.

The Dr Who style Police Box would be manned by an officer.

As well as providing a novelty attraction to visitors it would also offer a vital point of contact for members of the public.

Dorset's Police and Crime Commissioner Martyn Underhill says that's the only slight sticking point at the moment.

"The big issue is how long can the police commit to having someone in a tardis in Weymouth. So it isn't signed and sealed but it is an idea I am really excited by and I am glad we are exploring the idea."

There is a Police Tardis in Boscombe which has proved a big hit with sight seers.

Another idea from the East of the county which could be coming to Weymouth is a community safety bus.

Mr Underhill told Wessex FM what that would involve;

"Nurses, police and volunteers are on a bus in the centre of town, during the night time economy, on a Friday and Saturday night. They would help to divert people from the accident and emergency departments by helping to keep them safe. Youngsters will know if they've taken something they shouldn't have or if they have had too much to drink there's somewhere safe for them to go."
