Dorset Firms Wins £28M Navy Contract

Dorset based company, ATLAS ELEKTRONIK UK, have secured a £28 million deal with the Royal Navy.

Dorset based company, ATLAS ELEKTRONIK UK, have secured a £28M deal with the Royal Navy.

The firm will supply the MoD with Minesweeping equipment for unmanned vessels.

The first phase of the deal is worth £13M.

Atlas are based at Winfrith and have over 260 employees.

Philip Dunne MP, Minister of State for Defence Procurement said: This contract is an important step forward in enhancing the Royal Navy's ability to default sea-mines whilst reducing risks to our service personnel."

The system will include autonomous 'sense and avoid' capability to enable safe operations at sea and ultimately remove the 'man from the minefield'.

The contract will be executed over the next five years to restore minesweeping capabilities to the Royal Navy.
