Campaigners Will March To Save Childrens Ward At DCH

Dorset County Hospital 2

(Updated 3:20pm 4th June 2015)

6:46am 4th June 2015

A March against plans to change the children's ward at Dorset County Hospital is taking place later this month.

Wessex FM has seen a document which suggests youngsters who need specialist assessment and care would be treated at a major hospital in east Dorset - and not at Dorset County.

The protest is taking place in Dorchester on Saturday 13th June.

Parents say changes to the Kingfisher Ward and the Special Care Baby Unit will have a huge impact on the local community.

Nicky Dear is one of the organisers and told Wessex FM many mums and dads are frightened;

"Families are worried that they are going to be isolated from the community and their family and friends.  I know a few people with children that don't drive that have used the Kingfisher Ward. They are a fantastic service to the community.  I know people who work there and they do a wonderful job."

"We want as many people as they can to come along to the March - it won't go on all day but it is just strength in numbers really to show them how many people are opposed to this."

Dorset CCG say they have made no decisions about paediatric proposals and a full public consultation will take place later this year where local people will be able to have their say.
