Prison For Weymouth Burglar

John Edwards, June 2015

(Updated 2:34pm 10th June 2015)

1:34pm 9th June 2015

John Anthony Edwards, 42 and of Weymouth, was sentenced at Dorchester Crown Court on Friday 5 June 2015.

He pleaded guilty to a dwelling burglary at the same court on Tuesday 12 May 2015.

The court heard that on Sunday 19 October 2014, Edwards forced entry into a house on Westbourne Road and stole a laptop and large amount of jewellery.

Enquiries by police lead them to carry out a search of a house that Edwards had visited later that day, following the burglary. The laptop was recovered at that location and he was arrested on Monday 20 October 2015.

Investigating Officer Geoff Kerley, of Weymouth CID, said: “This kind of crime can be extremely distressing for victims and is taken very seriously in Dorset.

“I hope this sentence handed out by the courts sends out a very strong message that anyone committing burglary offences will be arrested and dealt with robustly by both the police and the courts.”
