West Dorset Lib Dem Calls For Children's Ward Proposals To Be Dropped

Ros Kayes

7:36am 10th June 2015

There are just three days to go before a march to protect the children's ward and special care baby unit at Dorset County Hospital.

Demonstrators will gather in Dorchester Town Centre on Saturday and support is growing by the day.

Parents are angry at proposals to treat youngsters who need specialist assessment and care at a major hospital in east Dorset - and not at Dorset County.

West Dorset Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesperson, Ros Kayes will be marching.

She told Wessex FM the situation is ridiculous;

"The biggest factor that people in Bournemouth and Poole who make these sorts of plans don't consider is, we in the West of this county have a lot of difficulty in getting over there. The public transport isn't good and there are a lot of people who don't live in towns so they don't have easy access to busses or trains anyway."

"If you've got to get a taxi to visit a child in hospital, that's not good either.  I would like them (the CCG) to take this whole issue of the Kingfisher Ward out of the equation before they even go to consultation in the summer, and that's what this campaign is about."

NHS Dorset CCG say no decisions have been made on paediatric proposals and a full public consultation will take place later this year.

Wessex FM will be at the March in Dorchester on Saturday to bring you full coverage of the day.
