UPDATED - Baby Unit Campaigners Picnic Outside Health Officials Offices In Dorchester

Baby Unit Demo Picnic

(Updated 1:31pm 19th June 2015)

9:49am 19th June 2015

The organisers of last weekend's march to save the Special Care Baby Unit and the Kingfisher Ward at Dorset County Hospital held an unusual protest in Dorchester this morning.

They decided to bring their children to Vespasian House for a picnic.

The Clinical Commissioning Group who came up with the proposals were having a meeting inside.

We asked Campaigner Nicky Dear how they rate their chances.

"If the support continues the way it is I think we have a good chance.  We have 10,000 signatures now and if the support keeps going the way it is I think we have a good chance of winning."

Campaigner Naomi Patterson told us the next big demonstration is coming soon.

"We've got another march that's going to be planned this weekend and that's when we are going to handing in the petition to the CCG."

On Saturday more than a thousand people took to the streets of Dorchester to voice their anger and dismay at plans to move special care facilities to Bournemouth or Poole.

Dorset CCG say no decisions have yet been made on paediatric services at Dorset County Hospital, and people will be able to have their say during a full public consultation later this year.
