A man's been arrested after this morning's serious road crash on the outskirts of Dorchester.

It happened just before six thirty on the road between the Monkey's Jump and Weirs roundabouts and involved a white Mercedes van and a silver Toyota.

The road was closed in both directions to allow collision investigators to examine the scene.

It has now re-opened.

Two people in the Toyota suffered serious injuries - one person from the van sustained minor injuries.

A 28-year-old man from the Birmingham area is being held on suspicion of driving offences.

Police Constable James Howes, of Dorset Police's Traffic Unit, said: "I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or the manner of driving of either vehicle involved prior to the collision to contact me on 101.

"I would also like to thank motorists for their patience in relation to any delays the road closure may have caused to their journey."
