Police in Weymouth have issued advice after reports of rouge traders operating in the area.

Distraction burglars often target vulnerable and elderly people.

The Police say if you know someone has visited a family member, friend or neighbour unexpectedly and cash or jewellery has gone missing – it’s possible they’ve been a victim of this type of crime.

Here’s some more advice from Dorset Police:

If you think someone you know has been victimised by a rogue trader – someone who has offered a service on a doorstep and has overcharged for poor, unnecessary or incomplete work – call the authorities immediately.

Report it to Trading Standards by calling the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 0345 404 05 06 or visit www.adviceguide.org.uk.

If a member of your family, friendship group or a neighbour has had a visit from someone unexpectedly and cash, jewellery or other valuable items have gone missing, it is possible that they’ve been a victim of distraction burglary.

If you suspect a crime is in progress and a rogue trader or distraction burglar is at a property – call the police on 999. If a crime has happened, please call 101.

People who are deaf, hard of hearing or have a speech impairment can report non-emergency crimes to the police by dialling 07766 425 243.
