Boat Fire Safety Days

(Updated 7:26am 20th March 2017)
20 fire related accidents and injuries happen on boats every year.
A local company is now putting on two special Boat Fire Safety Days in Weymouth Harbour and Portland Marina.
PD Fire and Safety are holding the events on 23rd March in Weymouth (10-4pm) near the Sailors Return and on 24th March near the Marina Office. (10-3pm)
Fire Protection Specialist Darren Faulkner explains what they'll be doing:
"We look at all the fire extinguishers on a boot as the salt in the sea makes them rust. So there's potential for them to blow up and cause a lot of devastation. Our aim is to make sure they are safe and if and when they are needed they are ready to go."
Peter Genge who's also a Fire Protection Specialist for the company says boat owners should not be complacent.
"It happens a lot more than people realise. Luckily most boat owners are geared up for a fire at sea. It's a very serious event if it does happen. So come down and see us on the day, talk to us about your boat. If you're moored nearby we'll have a look at your fire extinguishers and make sure they are in the right place."
Jurassic Jetski Tours Ltd and Weymouth Bay Rib Charter have each donated an experience day. A winner will be drawn on each safety day. The prize draw will be open to anyone.
