Purbeck Ice Cream being launched into space

8:11am 29th March 2017

A Dorset ice cream company's aiming for the stars today.... quite literally..

Purbeck Ice Cream are launching a tub of their product using a high altitude balloon.

It will pass through the mid-stratosphere where temperatures are minus 50 celcius.

With two GoPro's, tracking electronics and a 500ml tub attached to the payload, the Purbeck Ice Cream tub will be filmed on its entire journey to near space and back again, and taste tested on landing.

The Launch will be broadcasted live on our Periscope and Facebook Live from the farm in Kingston, Dorset, where Purbeck Ice Cream is made, and there will be live tracking of the payload as it makes its way up into space.

Purbeck Ice Cream sources their ingredients as close to their home county of Dorset as possible. Using 60% fresh Purbeck milk, 22% thick Dorset cream, British sugar and an abundance of only the best natural ingredients, with no artificial additives, added colours or nuts, it's gluten-free and suitable for vegetarians. Everything is made on the farm with fun, love and passion by a small and friendly team, who were secretly hoping to get their space wings.

Used to being bold and innovative, Purbeck Ice Cream has always been a trailblazer, creating strange and wonderful new flavours such as the ChilliRed Ice Cream, Dorset Blue Vinny Ice Cream, Dorset Marmalade Ice Cream and the new Dorset Truffle Ice Cream.
