England manager Gareth Southgate has praised a Girls football club from Weymouth.

A £3,000 Grow the Game grant from the Football Foundation is going to help Jurassic Coast Girls FC.

The cash will allow the club to develop additional Under 9 & Under 7 Girls teams and train additional coaches on FA coaching courses to support these teams. This funding will allow Jurassic Coast Girls FC to offer football opportunities for the next two seasons and beyond to girls aged 5 to 9 (school years 1-4 from Sept 2017).

England Men's Senior Manager and Football Foundation Ambassador, Gareth Southgate, said: "I am so pleased that Jurassic Coast Girls FC has secured this Grow the Game grant. The club has worked very hard with Dorset County FA and the Football Foundation to get more local people playing football so that they can enjoy the many physical and mental benefits that come with playing regular sport.

"Grow the Game is mainly funded by The FA and delivered by the Football Foundation. This is money that is flowing from the very top of the game down to the lowest levels, to help clubs at the grassroots to bear the cost of starting up a new team, whether it be for a new kit, pitch hire or sending volunteers on FA accredited coaching courses."

Grow the Game funding increases participation in our national game by helping clubs to provide opportunities for new players, or training volunteers to support new players and teams. The programme is delivered in partnership with all the 46 County FAs and funded by the FA.

So far Grow the Game has awarded 874 separate grants worth around £4.2m to grassroots football clubs. Analysis of the monitoring and evaluation so far predicts that this will result in the creation of 3,791 brand new football teams competing in FA-affiliated leagues, 72,872 new players participating each week and 10,959 new qualifications or courses being completed.

The key strength of Grow the Game is that its participation increases are sustainable rather than transient. Its grants create a solid infrastructure of teams and newly-trained coaches in which new people can start playing the sport, rather than simply providing temporary activity sessions, which are then vulnerable to drops in participation once the programme ends.

Nathan Wood, JCGFC Chairman said:

"This is a great opportunity for Jurassic Coast Girls FC to offer further opportunities for Girls to participate in Girls Football in the Area. The support of the Football Foundation is fundamental in allowing us to achieve our aim as a club to be able to offer all primary school aged girls the opportunity to play football in a safe & sustainable environment.

The funding will also allow us to grow the clubs coaching resources. To promote the club and the opportunities available thanks to this grant, the club are intending to hold a club open day in August during the FA Girls Football Week Euro Celebrations. Any girls interested in getting involved in playing football, especially in the two age groups supported by this grant, will be offered the opportunity to experience some fun football sessions led by the club's coaches for free."

Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: "Grow the Game has become one of the Foundation's most popular schemes. This additional funding provided by The FA is excellent news for grassroots clubs seeking to start new teams and get their volunteer coaches qualified with FA coaching badges.

"This most recent funding window has seen £2.1m invested into 420 clubs right across the country.

"Congratulations to Jurassic Coast Girls FC for working with the Dorset County FA to secure their £3,000 Grow the Game grant which will increase participation in the region as well as support football development in the area."
