Rendezvous up for national award

rendezvous quayside music festival 1

8:30am 17th July 2017

The Rendezvous in Weymouth has been shortlisted as one of the top six entertainment pubs in the UK as part of the national Great British Pub Awards.

The venue entered the competition in March receiving news of their success last week, and now has the chance to take the winning crown after a final round of judging in August. The awards will be presented on 7th September at the London Hilton on Park Lane in London.

The Rendezvous Quayside music festival, organised up by manager Keith Treggiden for the first time ten years ago and now triple its size, was one of the most impressive parts of any entry judges had seen.

The £100,000 annual investment has contributed to more than just entertaining its 4,000 visitors with emerging artists launching careers, and local hospitality businesses benefitting from a 25% rise in turnover during the events that have become as culturally symbolic to Weymouth as its sailing.

Judges were also impressed with Rendezvous' diversity from Sunday afternoon sing-a-longs to karaoke, DJs and live bands of every genre, Weymouth Oscars rewarding local businesses, quizzes, sports, and family days.

As Chair of the Best Bar None and Pubwatch schemes, driving responsible retailing in the community and upholding the reputation of the industry alongside significant fundraising over the years, Keith's efforts were also attributed to the achievement.

"We have a fantastic venue on the Quayside which we've shared with Weymouth by making it the best it can be for many people from different walks of life," said Keith.

"We're going to keep on investing, coming up with new ideas, including the community and hopefully triumphing when we win the ultimate entertainment Great British pub of the year title."

So popular has the Quayside become, it grew by 20% last year whilst the £600,000 this year has attracted a further 10% growth.
