Discover more about Chesil Beach

DWT

8:41am 11th August 2017

Locals and visitors will have the chance to go wild at a free event being held at the Fine Foundation Chesil Beach Centre on Sunday 13th August.

The annual event, supported by Dorset Wildlife Trust (DWT) partner Southern Co-Op as part of their "Love Your Neighbourhood" community investment programme, will allow both locals and visitors to discover more about the beach's wildlife and the important work that the DWT does there.

From 10am to 5pm visitors will be able to take part in a great variety of activities that include crafts, moth discoveries, marine encounters, walks and boat trips on the Fleet Explorer.

There will also be entertainment from local groups, including at 12pm Razzamataz Weymouth singers, and at 12.45pm a display by the Weymouth and Dorchester Taekwondo club. Come for a butterfly count and walk at 11am with a Seashore Safari walk at 3.45pm.  The Fleet Explorer (£6.50 adults, £4.50 children 3-16 years old) will be sailing during the day at 10am, 11.15am, 12.30pm, 2pm, 3.15pm and 4.30pm.  Booking is essential for boat trips - call 01305 206191.

Other stalls will include information about the DWT Lorton Meadows Conservation Centre, eco-crabbing, Chesil and the Fleet marine life and the Little Tern Project.  The Taste café will also be open for delicious lunches and refreshments throughout the day.

The event organiser Nicola Whitehead said "Wild About Chesil is our biggest wildlife event of the year and we are excited to welcome visitors to our beautiful location.  There will be something for all the family for what promises to be a great day."

The Chesil Beach Centre is halfway along the causeway between Weymouth and Portland (DT4 9XE) with a pay and display car park.  For more information about the centre and surrounding area visit www.dorsetwildlifetrust.org.uk/chesilbeach or phone 01305 206191.
