Victoria Park Post Office is on the move

Victoria Park Post Office, Dorchester

(Updated 6:59am 13th September 2017)

10:35am 12th September 2017

Victoria Park Post Office in Dorchester is on the move.

The branch is re-locating a couple of doors down to the Central Convenience Stores in Maud Road.

Customers will be able to benefit from Sunday opening and longer hours.

A previous plan to relocate the branch to Poundbury was abandoned after hundreds of campaigners said it would be too far to walk.

Post Office services will be provided from three modern counters including two modern full-screened counters and an open-plan counter alongside the retail counter with significantly extended opening hours.

The two main counters will be open Monday to Saturday: 9am - 5.30pm. The open-pan counter will be open even longer hours, Monday to Sunday: 6am - 10pm.

This will be an extra 66 hours a week of Post Office service including all day Sunday and Saturday afternoon. The branch will open significantly earlier and will close much later. These changes will make it far more convenient for customers to visit.

A wider selection of on demand travel money and car tax renewal will also be added to the wide range of Post Office services already available.

The current branch at 10 Maud Road, Dorchester, DT1 2LW will close with the current postmaster's agreement on Saturday 14 October at 12.30pm.

During the transfer an alternative branch includes:

Dorchester Post Office, Trinity Street, Dorchester, DT1 1DH

The move is part of a major modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers to do business, through longer opening hours and modern open plan environments.

Suzanne Richardson, Regional Network Manager, said: "We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents. We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs. This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and will secure services for the future."

During public consultation the Post Office received 31 individual responses from customers and local representatives. The feedback welcomed the improved access, more spacious premises and longer opening times the new branch would provide.  They also received feedback about the availability of space inside the new shop.

Before the new Post Office opens, the new operator will install a permanent ramp with a handrail at the entrance for ease of access into the premises.
