Wessex FM to see plans for major health services shake up

Save Our Wards March 3

8:32am 13th September 2017

Wessex FM will get a look at plans for a major shake-up to health services in Dorset today.

A briefing's being held in Dorchester where Dorset CCG Chief Executive Tim Goodison will go through the recommendations being considered by the Governing Body next week.

Health Campaigners like Claudia Sorin have been fighting to protect maternity care and the childrens' ward at Dorset County Hospital.

Claudia Sorin, of Dorset Health Campaign and Save Kingfisher and Maternity at DCH, said: "Certain groups are more vulnerable than others and it appears that the Equalities report has not included any detailed analysis of how groups such as disabled people, those on low income, those in rural areas and young mums will be impacted by the proposals.

"Bus services have been cut to the bone, we are going to be building many more homes which will bring an increase in population; now is not the time to be cutting beds and centralising healthcare."

Travel times used in the Review were hugely underestimated the campaigners claim and a recent travel report by South West Ambulance Service shows that some emergency journeys will take longer.  Naomi Patterson of Save Kingfisher and Maternity at DCH said, "How can the CCG think that it's ok for journey times to be longer for some just because they will be shorter for others? I feel for the people of Bridport, Portland, Weymouth and surrounding areas."

Dorset Health Campaigns Together are urging the public to join them for a protest outside the Dorset CCG's public meeting to discuss the response to the Clinical Services Review on 20 September at the Dorford Centre Dorchester at 10am.

"We hope the CCG will have answers to our questions" said Naomi, "and we won't be silenced."
