A building which used to be occupied by BAE systems in Weymouth is being turned into a new fitness centre.

DJ Property is investing £1m into Zone Fitness which will operate from Avon Close on the Granby Industrial Estate.

Blue Fitness are also involved in the joint venture which will generate 13 new jobs.

Mickey Jones, chief executive of DJ Property said: "Zone Fitness is just what South Dorset has been waiting for. Other large towns and major employment areas, like the Granby, have access to high quality fitness facilities, but there are currently none in South Dorset. This will be a large facility that can cope with up to 4,000 members - exactly what is required to satisfy the huge local demand.

"This is another piece of vital local infrastructure, like Aldi at Link Park, which raises the attractiveness of the Granby as a place to work and Chickerell as a place to live. Everybody needs to exercise to help maintain good health and with Zone Fitness close to so many places of work and homes, it could not be easier.

"A massive investment has been made in the very best exercise equipment and training facilities, creating something we can be very proud of. We are all very excited for the opening in early 2018."

The website and social media pages for Zone Fitness are now up and running and are now featuring regular posts with updates on the construction and development of the facility. This will allow potential members to share in the process of creating South Dorset's largest fitness facility.
