Winners to be announced in the Dorset Tourism Awards

Published at 10:21am 16th November 2017.

We'll find out tonight who the winners are of this year's Dorset Tourism Awards.

This year’s awards saw a 15% increase in entries and an ever-close competition between leading tourism businesses and individuals across Dorset.

The ceremony will take place later at The Lighthouse in Poole.

Entrants went through a 3-stage judging process, taking into account websites, reviews, social media and over 90 visits by judges to businesses. Evidence was then presented on the 3rd of October to an independent judging panel.

Finalists are from across Dorset including Lyme Regis, Sherborne, Christchurch, Poole, Weymouth, Bournemouth, Blandford Forum and Cranborne.

Robin Barker, who created and managed the awards, said: “It is so rewarding to see the increase in entries and also the further raising of standards across the country. Judging this year has been tougher than ever, with evidence of excellence from business that are investing significantly in their facilities and people.”

Winners at the Dorset Awards will be considered for matching categories in the South West Tourism Excellence Awards in February 2018. If successful, they could go on to represent Dorset at the National VisitEngland Awards later in the year.

Nick Fernyhough, from headline sponsors Saffery Champness, enthused: “Saffery Champness Accountants are delighted to see the high number of entries received for the Dorset Tourism Awards this year and the particularly high quality of applications. The awards are helping to raise not only the profile of Dorset but also to raise the quality of the Dorset visitor experience.

“We are delighted to be the headline sponsor for the fifth consecutive year and look forward to the Award evening when excellence in this essential sector will be rewarded and celebrated. We wish all the finalists the best of luck.”

Among the finalists are Aroma Café, Bridport, and Taste Café, Weymouth, for the café/tearoom of the year award and Sandworld, Weymouth, for the small attraction of the year award.
