Dorset Mind teams up with running campaign

7:06am 29th November 2017

We are being told getting active is good for our mental health.

A new campaign called 'Run Every Day' is teaming up with Dorset Mind in January in a bid to get us exercising every day for a month.

The main aim is to promote the positive impact an active lifestyle can have on your wellbeing. Research shows that getting fit reduces the risk of depression by 30%.

Patron and Dorset Mind Trustee Andy Mayers said: "What I particularly like about this challenge is that everyone benefits. It's a well-known fact that exercise increases serotonin and that in turn is mood boosting.

"We want to make sure that everyone in Dorset experiencing a mental health problem gets the support and respect they deserve."

R.E.D is free to participate in and all sponsorship money raised by local challenges will go towards funding support services at Dorset mind.

Founder of Run Every Day, Hannah Beecham, started the campaign after helping her mum combat depression by exercising.

She said: "Witnessing the life-changing effect that a physical challenge can have on someone suffering from depression, inspired me to start a social movement that promotes mental wellbeing through exercise."

Run Every Day's mission is to promote physical activity all year round.
