Dorchester Town Football Club have welcomed a new member to its board.

A statement from the club reads as follows :-

Dorchester Town FC are delighted to announce that Local Businessman Carl Mintern was co-opted on to the club’s board last night following a meeting of the Directors.

Carl’s appointment is expected to be confirmed by the members at the Club’s AGM on Wednesday 13th June.

Carl lives with his wife and three children on the Dorset/Somerset border, where he moved around 14 years ago. Previously he lived in Bradford Peverell, and was raised in Muckleford near Dorchester, attending St. Osmund’s then The Dorchester Thomas Hardye School.

Carl now runs several businesses from the Mintern offices situated at Henstridge Airfield.

Mintern Building and Landscaping was Carl’s first company, formed shortly after being made redundant 2008. Growing from just himself, to the group of companies it is today with around 60 people working under the Mintern Brand.

Mintern Fencing and Sheds was formed in partnership with Andrew Southern, who has family links to Dorchester Town FC. The Mintern group now incorporates Mintern Roofing and Mintern Bathrooms and Wet rooms.

As a keen student of business, Carl has a hunger to learn about the business world and considers himself a natural marketeer.

The desire for success, coupled with the overcoming of several personal Demons, including addictions, and mental health issues, culminated in being announced as businessman of the year at the prestigious 2017 Blackmore Vale business awards, at a black-tie event hosted at the George Albert Hotel.

A very active member of the community, Carl uses his business to volunteer at local schools and charities, to help fill the budget gap left on school maintenance and the like. Carl also sits on his local Parish Council.

Yeovil College has also obtained the services of Carl as an associate lecturer, where he leads classes to business students, developing their skills in finance, marketing, business planning and cash flow forecasting along with many other aspects of running a business.

Not satisfied with working within his business, Carl has taken on the mission of trying to increase transparency within the construction industry, with a series of online videos called “what your builder doesn’t want you to know”, which cover topics such as why your builder doesn’t call you back and how your consumer rights protect you.

These can be found on the Mintern Building and Landscaping Facebook page, or on YouTube by searching for Mintern Group LTD.

From conversations with Directors at Dorchester Town Football Club, followed by more in depth discussions around the commercial running of the club, Carl thought that he could add value to the board in many ways.

He said: “The fact it is a community owned venture, really excited me, and obviously with my deep roots in Dorchester I felt privileged to find that there was real value I could add to the club.

My skills in finance and business will help me increase the club’s revenue and help to add to the fantastic work already done at the club to build a firstly stable platform, and then sustainable growth that I hope can in turn translate to success on the pitch.”

He went on to say: “It is a very exciting time for the club, with the new 3G pitch, and a multitude of unexplored opportunities to investigate. I certainly hope that I am able to deliver the results that I believe are possible”

Welcome to the club Carl.
