Bridport Mind Fest organisers renew appeal for support

Bridport Mind Fest

7:45am 17th July 2018

Organisers of this year's Bridport Mind Fest are renewing appeals for your help and support.

After a successful first edition last year a major six-day event is now planned and they've have launched a Crowdfunder Appeal to help reach their target of £7,000.

The deadline for donations is Thursday.

The independent festival will be held in venues across Bridport, including the Arts Centre and Town Hall from the 5th-10th October, which is World Mental Health Day.

One in four UK adults and one in 10 children are being affected by mental health, with this event aiming to raise awareness of this issue, reduce the stigma and offer practical steps to support each other.

The event will feature several special guest speakers including well-known agony aunt and Daily Mail journalist Bel Mooney and Dr Jonty Heathersedge, from the BBC TV series Street Doctors.

There will also be performance and concerts by local and national acts as well as workshops, discussions and art exhibitions.

Festival Organiser Simon Williams wishes for the event to be accessible by everyone regardless of their income which is why all the events are 'by donation' only but this can only be made possible with the local public's support.

He told Wessex FM, "Mental illness can happen to anyone, anywhere - We want this to be an openly accepted thing that people are free to talk about in the same way they would talk about a broken leg or something."

"We are going to co-produce this with Bridport Youth Centre and the young people will have ownership of this production in principle. They will be running it themselves and we hope it will involve other young musicians from Bridport in the actual performance that they put on", he added.

If you would like to donate you can visit their Crowdfunder page and make a pledge here: http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/bridport-mind-fest-2018.
