More calls being made to NHS Dorset 111

Published at 11:00am 19th September 2018.

Almost 3,000 more calls to NHS 111 have been recorded in Dorset so far this year compared to the same period in 2017.

Between April and July, 78,351 calls were made to the non-emergency service – four per cent more than the four-month period last year.

While there was a drop in calls in April, increases have been recorded for the following three months.

In June, the service, which is run by South Western Ambulance Service, was rated as ‘good by the Care Quality Commission.

The ambulance service had also run the 111 service in Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly until last year when its contract for those areas ended.

Despite this, the service has been unable to meet the target of having 95 per cent of calls answered within a minute.

This had risen in April but from May to July the percentage of calls meeting the target level fell.
