Dorset parents asked to take part in mental health survey

Published by Maria Greenwood at 10:38am 20th September 2018.

Mums and dads are being asked about their experiences.

Healthwatch Dorset wants to hear from mums and dads in the county about mental health support during and after pregnancy.

As many as 1 in 5 mums experience mental health issues and 1 in 10 dads often have similar experiences.

Men are also 47 times more likely to be at risk of suicide after they've had a baby.

Healthwatch Dorset are asking parents to carry out a short 5 minute survey.

Dr Andy Mayers, an expert in perinatal mental health at Bournemouth University, explains:

"It's really important that this Healthwatch England survey is completed by fathers, as well as mothers, to help us learn more about their experiences. If you or someone you know has recently become a parent, please encourage them to complete this short survey - it only takes 5 minutes and with your help we really can make a difference."
