Meet the winners of Ironman Weymouth 70.3

Ironman Weymouth 768 Finish

7:52am 24th September 2018

More than 2,000 athletes battled tough weather conditions yesterday to take part in Ironman Weymouth 70.3.

Despite concerns about the weather, the event was still able to go ahead, with only a slight change to the swimming leg of the race.

A 950 meter swim across Weymouth Bay was followed by a 56 mile cycle and a 13.1 mile run ending at Weymouth Pavilion.

Elliot Smales took the men's race on his 24th Birthday and India Lee won her first title in her debut Ironman 70.3.

"What a race! Today was a massive battle of attrition for everyone. My motivation if I'm honest, this morning was pretty low to race with the weather. It was one of those days where I put my head down and I got to about 10 miles and that's where I pulled out last year and I thought it's going to make me stronger if I just carry on. I plugged away and thought of all the volunteers on the course and if they are going to stand out there all day, I can do four hours of racing," said Elliot.

"It's my first IRONMAN 70.3 so I didn't know what to expect, I was just going into it for the experience and to see if I'd be any good. Fenella [Langridge] and Nikki [Bartlett] came flying past me on the bike and I just tried to keep them in sight for as long as I could," said India.
