Campaign group releases list of Weymouth Peninsula objections

Weymouth Peninsula WPBC

8:06am 11th October 2018

Campaigners have released a document which sets out objections to the council's plan to redevelop Weymouth Peninsula.

Weyforward raised money to hire an expert to challenge the scheme's suitability, they want changes made to what's being proposed.

Money for an independent review of the council’s plan was crowd-funded by the group. They raised £1960 in 14 days.

Charlie Hopkins is a community planning consultant and the report’s been delivered in time for a full council meeting tonight, (11 October) where the council will be asked to agree £11.4M of funding for the first phase of the scheme.  That will include building a 100 room hotel and a pub/diner.

Weymouth Peninsula Plans Phase 1

The document claims the proposals for the site contradict the Local Plan for Weymouth and Portland set out in 2011-2013.

Councillor Jeff cant told Wessex FM: "Some of the people who are now rising up out of the woodwork post the public consultation, are trying to get into the arena of discussing the detailed consent that will be required for precisely what this development is going to look like.

“We’re not quite there yet. What we need first of all is outlined consent on the site.”

Cllr Cant says the time to act is now: "This is a golden opportunity. If we miss this opportunity, if we allow minorities to scotch it, then this will be a disastrous setback for the town.

“Outline planning consent needs to be gained now before we pitch this to the shadow unitary authority.”
