A search was launched yesterday (10 October) after fears 3 people in a dinghy were in difficulty in the sea off West Bay.

5 officers from West Bay Coastguard Rescue team were sent to East Beach.

By the time they arrived the occupants of the dinghy had made it safely back to shore.

A spokesman for West Bay Coastguard Rescue Team said: " On arriving at the car park, the persons were quickly found and it was established that they had not been in distress. Instead they had cut their pleasure trip short due to the wind and sea conditions."

"We want to thank the member of the public that dialled 999 and also for the assistance provided on our arrival which led us to the suspected casualties."

The incident was logged as a false alarm with good intent.
