Thieves broke in to the Palm House café in Weymouth on Monday night.

Nigel Sims-Duff’s the owner. He says that they came in through the children’s play area and broke a window to get in.

Amongst the items taken were staff tips (which were going to be given out at Christmas), a charity sweet machine, alcohol and cash from the register.

Mr Sims-Duff says he came in on Tuesday morning to find food products and clothing all over the floor.

He says staff are upset. “They’re disappointed as well over feeling vulnerable that the place has been broken into. Their clothes that they have here… were strewn across the floor, so they’ve obviously gone through pockets."

Community response

However, he says the response from the local community has been very positive. They’ve been very busy since people heard about the break in and lots of people have given support on social media.

“When you get the support of the community it does give you that bit of a lift to realise that people like us being here, they want us to stay and obviously that’s what we’ll do.”
