Rosie Barfoot says it's an opportunity to challenge and encourage each other professionally.

A business coach from Dorchester is asking local business women to join a group to help encourage and support them towards their professional goals.

Rosie Barfoot has been a personal coach for 25 years. She set up a BEE (Business Enhancing Experience) groups in Somerset but now wants to try running one in Dorset.

She says it’s a good opportunity to earn through other people’s problems.

“What the women realised was that they were learning as much from someone else thinking through their problem, for themselves.

“It was looking at what they could take away from the whole meeting.”

Inspiration

Ms Barfoot says she was inspired to start a new group in Dorset after seeing an exhibition featuring photos of women who were the first to accomplish their goals like:

  • Edith Kent – First woman in Britain to receive equal pay
  • Betty Boothroyd – First woman Speaker of the House
  • Commander Karen Dalton-Fyfe – First woman to command a naval base
  • Felicity Aston – First woman to ski solo across the Antarctic.

The exhibition, by photographer Anita Corbin, started at a BEE group. She first had the idea 10 years ago and says her BEE group helped make her dreams reality.

She said:“It was a great experience and the group encouraged me to ‘just do it’. With their initial support and many others along the way, the dream has become a reality.”

Ms Barfoot said:

“It was very humbling to see her and her exhibition and how far she’s come.

“It inspired me to want to help other women achieve their dream too.”

She also said that this is something men can benefit from too, but it works best in separate groups of men and women.
