Lee's got his motorbike back!

Stolen motorbike from Portland 2

Published at 10:46am 6th December 2018. (Updated at 11:35am 7th December 2018)

A Portland man who appealed for the safe return of his motorbike has some good news.

Lee Allen's Silver Honda was one of three bikes stolen from the island last week.

The binman for Dorset Waste Partnership woke up on Friday morning to discover his bike missing from his address on Avalanche Road.

But there's some good news.

Lee has called us to say he got his bike back last night!

"It was found late last night and spotted by a member of the public. It's a great feeling to have it back and after a few little repairs life can now carry on again as normal."

"I can't thank you guys enough and anyone who paid attention to the appeal. Its been a massive help."

The bike was found abandoned in Gloucester Road in Dorchester.

An investigation is underway into each of the incidents.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police using the relevant incident numbers.

The force has issued a number of top tips on securing your motorbike:

  • Always take your keys with you when you leave your motorbike, even for a short time. If you have security devices fitted, always use them.
  • Fit an approved alarm and immobiliser (and sticker) to your bike - this will deter criminals. If the criminal manages to bypass the alarm, the immobiliser will make it difficult if not impossible to start.
  • Park your bike in designated areas that are in full view of a busy street or car park.
  • Always try and lock your bike away in a secure location such as a garage or shed when it is not in use. By doing this you may also benefit from cheaper bike insurance.
  • If you cannot do this then consider adding additional high security measures such as wheel clamps to deter thieves.
  • Security mark as many parts of the motorcycle and accessories as possible, use the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or unique coding supplied by a security company.
