Dorset PCC's out in supermarket's this month asking what you think.

Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner Martyn Underhill's asking what you think about paying more for more police officers.

He's visiting supermarkets around the county this month asking if you'd be prepared to pay £2 extra a month (£24 per year).

Police saw a 10% rise in reported crime in 2017/18 but it's hoped the increase could help them grow above demand.

Yesterday Martyn appeared at Tesco in Dorchester and spoke to locals about their views.

Speaking to Wessex FM, he was optimistic, saying that a £2 increase each month would allow the police to slightly grow their service.

But he says it all adds up and £24 per year is a lot of money. He was clear that he didn't think this cost should be taken from the tax payer:

Martyn Underhill on Council Tax Precept Rise

Sex, drugs and public urinating

Dorchester Town Council are set to ask MP Oliver Letwin to campaign for more police funding after claims of sex, violence, drug dealing and public urination. (article link)

Earlier this week, the council heard claims from some residents that they are being disturbed by anti-social behaviour.

One question raised at the meeting was whether or not Dorchester could employ it's own police to patrol.

Speaking to Wessex FM yesterday, Martyn Underhill responded to the outcome of the meeting.

"I can say to the public, if they agree to pay £24 pounds, there will be an increase frontline in Dorset.

"The meeting in Dorchester was really interesting the other night... I am going out this Saturday night with Street Pastors in Bournemouth. I keep asking the questions, do we need Street Pastors in Dorchester?"
