'Approval to demolish council-owned building in order to modernise car park'

A planning application was approved in October to demolish the existing Community Church on Acland Road. This was in order to modernise the adjoining car park.

Cllr Anthony Alford, leader of West Dorset District Council, said: “these works will enable us to reconfigure the car park and provide additional parking spaces to support the economic development of the town.”

In 2015, West Dorset District Council approved the purchase of the Dorchester Community Church building on Acland Road. The council allowed the church to continue to operate until they establish themselves. Dorchester Community Church has now moved to a new purpose built building in Poundbury.
