The man behind Weymouth's Punch and Judy Show has told Wessex FM he will be back for next summer.

Mark Poulton has been the custodian of the seaside tradition since 2005.

Last Autumn he admitted he may be forced to give things up for good because he's not able to cover his costs.

"People expect to see it here" he told us.

"It's been here since 1880 and there are now only 3 of us in the entire world that still perform Punch and Judy regularly on the beach - it's getting harder and harder. There's been a Punch and Judy show for so long and people always think there will be a show. They don't give a thought about the pound we ask for them to put in the box".

"That pound they put in the box isn't just for watching the show. It's also covers all the time during the winter when I at home spending a lot of money and time making and repairing things for the summer season".

"Obviously all the time I am making stuff in the workshop there is no money coming in."

However, since then BAGWELL FARM HOLIDAY TOURING PARK have come forward and offered him a pitch. It means he now has somewhere to stay over the summer season.

""We are not totally out of the woods yet, but it's very positive news. A lot of people have got in touch and said how pleased they are that I and the punch and judy show are going to return!" he said.

"It's all thanks to Bagwell Farm!".

Mark will be on Weymouth beach, opposite Kings Statue for Easter, May Bank Holiday and at the end of July to coincide with the start of the summer holidays.
