Plans for speed cameras on the A35 Puddletown Bypass

They could be installed between Bere Regis and Dorchester.

Average speed cameras are set to be installed on the A35 Puddletown Bypass.

Dorset police and crime commissioner Martyn Underhill said the measures were being considered between Bere Regis and Dorchester in a bid to tackle speeding drivers.

It follows the installation of a similar system on the A338 Spur Road at the beginning of the year.

A spokesman for Mr Underhill said no further information could be provided at this stage because work was still ongoing but that more information would be provided “as soon as is practicable”.

“Dorset Police and local authorities work in partnership to introduce measures in order to improve road safety and work towards reducing the number of those killed and injured on Dorset’s roads,” they added.

Six cameras were installed on the A338 in January but they have still yet to be turned on.

Announcing the move at the time, a spokesman for Dorset Police said they hoped the average speed camera system would be rolled out elsewhere in the county.
