Dorset Carers Hub to host a special picnic.

A new group is offering vital support for carers in Dorset.

Dorset Carers Hub was launched in March this year and is run by like-minded carers who want to support one another.

They are already offering support to 60 carers in the local area.

Wessex FM spoke to Mark Watson from the group.

Mark said; "Everybody has different caring roles, every role is unique to the individual but the concerns, the stresses, the guilt is common to us all."

The group launched back in March and hold weekly meetings in Dorchester.

They say it's an important step because lots of groups for carers are focused on specific conditions, where as Dorset Carers Hub brings together people who care in different situations.

Mark said it's not just to talk about caring but to give people some down time too.

"One lady comes to us regularly. She doesn't want to talk about her mother's condition she just wants to have a gossip. She wants to switch off.

"She knows all about - in her case - Alzheimers. She just wants to gossip about anything, but not caring."

They're holding a picnic for carers at Maumbury Rings on the 14th of June.
